Position: Dance Instructor - Somatic Dance for Neurodiverse Children

Summary: As a Dance Instructor, you will facilitate a somatic, participant-led dance program for neurodivergent children.


ABOUT OLYMPIC NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE

Olympic Neighbourhood House Inc (ONH) is a not-for-profit registered charity, a Learn Local and Neighbourhood House, operating in the heart of West Heidelberg, we provide a safe space for people to learn and connect with others.

Initially established to improve education, employment, health, and social cohesion outcomes for the community of West Heidelberg, ONH has become a safe haven and lifeline for our community. In addition, ONH delivers community engagement projects encouraging well-being and social interaction.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Our Somatic Dance Program is a specialised movement-based initiative designed for neurodivergent children, offering a safe and supportive space where they can explore their bodies and emotions through dance.

Experienced instructors lead the program, tailoring each session to the unique sensory and emotional needs of neurodivergent children. The Somatic Dance Program helps children connect with their bodies, build social skills, and enjoy movement in a neurodiversity-affirming environment.

The program will run during Terms 2 and 3 in two 8-week blocks on Saturdays:

  • Term 2: 2 May - 20th June

  • Term 3 : 25th July - 12th September

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Dance Instructor will facilitate a somatic, participant-led dance program for neurodivergent children. This role requires the ability to adapt teaching approaches to individual needs, respond to participant interests, and deliver engaging dance experiences across a range of styles. The position is offered as a 16-week contract during Victorian school Terms 2 and 3, 2026, and is ideal for a dance practitioner who values flexibility, creativity and a strengths-based approach to working with children. The Dance Instructor must be available Saturdays.

ABOUT YOU

You will bring both skill and sensitivity to your teaching practice, with the ability to create a safe, inclusive and responsive learning environment.

  • Personal or professional experience with neurodiverse children and young people

  • Strong ability to adapt teaching approaches to support diverse learning needs

  • Confidence teaching a variety of dance styles, guided by participant interest and engagement

  • At least 12 months’ experience in dance instruction

  • Current Working with Children Check.
