Volunteer Position: Volunteer Youth Mentor - Somatic Dance for Neurodiverse Children

ABOUT OLYMPIC NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE
Olympic Neighbourhood House Inc (ONH) is a not-for-profit registered charity, a Learn Local and Neighbourhood House, operating in the heart of West Heidelberg, we provide a safe space for people to learn and connect with others.
Initially established to improve education, employment, health, and social cohesion outcomes for the community of West Heidelberg, ONH has become a safe haven and lifeline for our community. In addition, ONH delivers community engagement projects encouraging well-being and social interaction.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Our Somatic Dance Program is a specialised movement-based initiative designed for neurodivergent children, offering a safe and supportive space where they can explore their bodies and emotions through dance.
Experienced instructors lead the program, tailoring each session to the unique sensory and emotional needs of neurodivergent children. The Somatic Dance Program helps children connect with their bodies, build social skills, and enjoy movement in a neurodiversity-affirming environment.
The program will run during Terms 2 and 3 in two 8-week blocks:
Term 2: 2 May - 20th June
Term 3 : 25th July - 12th September
ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
As a mentor, you’ll be paired with a young dancer, providing guidance, connection, and life skills in a fun, inclusive environment. You’ll gain hands-on experience in dance facilitation, support and mentor neurodivergent children, further develop your own dance skills, and become an official volunteer with a community organisation.
WHO CAN APPLY
Young persons aged 16 to 24 with personal experience of, or identification as, neurodiverse. Must be available Saturdays, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM (Victorian school terms 2 & 3, 2026)
