Success Story: Momina gains Citizenship

At Olympic Neighbourhood House, we support students on many learning journeys - one of them being the path to becoming Australian citizens.

At ONH, we deliver a range of English classes aimed at different levels, and in 2025, we introduced a new program: Your Path to Citizenship: English Made Simple.

This course helps students build their English skills and learn more about life in Australia, including everyday language, key ideas from the official citizenship resource Our Common Bond, and Australia’s history, values, traditions, and system of government.

This program may help students feel more confident and prepared to take the next step towards citizenship.

Last year, our student Momina completed Your Path to Citizenship: English Made Simple alongside her AMEP classes. Earlier this year, Momina successfully gained her Australian citizenship after completing the course.

When reflecting on her experience, Momina shared that she chose to complete the course to fast-track her English skills so she could confidently sit the citizenship test.

“Throughout the course, I enjoyed meeting new students, having a supportive teacher, and learning to read and write. The course helped me understand the questions in the test and gave me the confidence I needed.”

Stories like Momina’s highlight the importance of accessible and supportive learning opportunities within our community, helping students build confidence not only in their English skills, but also in taking important steps towards their future in Australia.
